What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a manual therapy that assesses and treats muscle dysfunction and pain with the purpose of restoring optimal function and movement. Myotherapists manipulate the muscles and connective tissues to stimulate the nervous system to cause adaptations in the neuromuscular system facilitating improved strength, endurance and co-ordination between muscles, the joints they work across and the other systems of the body.

Myotherapists only use 'soft-tissue' techniques and do not manipulate or 'crack' joints. Although the techniques are applied in a specific manner, depending on each individual's condition, myotherapy is a 'whole-body' treatment system that looks at how all the body segments are interacting. Who can benefit?

  • Those suffering from pain associated with strain and stress.
  • Those suffering pain or dysfunction associated with poor posture.
  • Those who wish to maintain good function and movement or reduce the risk of stress and strain on the musculoskeletal system.
  • Those suffering from chronic conditions affecting mobility.

  • Reduces stiffness and increases range of movement.
  • Shortens healing time due to increased blood flow and metabolism in the muscle.
